Thinx has one of the best names in the business when it comes to period panties. They have a “One Woman” campaign (in conjunction with Harper’s Bazaar Magazine) which describes the lives of five extraordinary woman, who are all in male-dominated jobs, who rely on Thinx during their periods.

These woman have no time for tampons and pads, and use Thinx panties as the best solution for their periods – such as in the case with Grace Robertson, a champion firefighter, Fatima Sharfi, an accomplished pilot, Kiko Matthews, the fastest woman to solo-row across the Atlantic Ocean, Oona Tempest, sushi head chef and restaurant owner, and Tia Norfleet, the first African American NASCAR-licensed driver.

How Thinx Started

Thinx was created back in 2011 BY Radha Agrawal, Miki Agrawal, and Antonia Saint Dunbar. In 2018 a range for teenagers and tweens was created called BTWN, and in 2019, Thinx Air was released to the public, which is a version of their underwear that is quick drying.

Accolations

TIME Magazine named Thinx panties one of 2015’s best inventions! In 2017, Fast Company Magazine named Thinx one of the most innovative companies of the year!

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

Do Thinx really work?

Thinx really does work! They are one of the game changers in the business.
They put a lot of effort into their period panties making sure that they’re leak proof, and stain proof.
Although there are many other period panties out there, few can claim to hold up to as many tampons worth of menstrual fluid as Thinx can – up to 4 regular tampons for certain styles.

Can Thinx replace pads?

Thinx is the ultimate solution when you’re sick and tired of having to use uncomfortable tampons and sticky sanitary pads that don’t always fit comfortably, sometimes even shifting.
Thinx is actually better than pads as they are a better alternative to menstrual care for the environment.
Over a lifetime you will also save so much by not using pads anymore.

How long can I wear Thinx?

You can wear Thinx between 8-12 hours. It all depends how heavy your flow is. But, that’s why Thinx is so convenient!
It has such a big range of different styles depending on how light or heavy your flow is!
If your period is really heavy, you’re going to want super absorbent styles. If your flow is extremely light, you can wear their Thong.

How do you clean Thinx?

Thinx is simple to clean! First rinse them in cool water.
Then place them in a special lingerie bag or enclosed pillow case in the washing machine. Wash them only with other delicates, at a cool temperature.
If you don’t have a washing machine, rinse them in cool water first, then gently apply washing liquid, wash carefully and hang to dry.

Does Thinx feel wet?

Thinx creators made sure that all Thinx period panties have a moisture wicking layer, so that they don’t feel wet.
They also have a layer that is absorbent, so that they don’t leak and cause unnecessary embarrassment for anyone!
The material is lightweight, so it never feels bulky, or like you’re sitting in a puddle of water. They really are great!

Why do my Thinx smell?

If your pair of Thinx smells, it could possibly just be that you’re having an extra heavy flow, and have gone past the 12-hour mark without changing them.
Also, if you sweat a lot, or have been working out with them and haven’t changed them for a few hours, they may smell.
Always make sure to shower every day when having a menstrual cycle.

Does Thinx smell?

Thinx’ special technology in their wicking layer absorbs all traces of menstrual fluid. It has an application of non-migratory silver to control odor, as well as the spread of any form of bacteria.
“Non-migratory” only responds to bacteria specifically on the fabric, and not on your skin.
This way your vaginal microbiome will remain fresh and balanced.

Do Thinx work for urine?

Thinx has a sister brand called Speax. Speax is designed specifically for incontinence. It’s bladder leak protection on the go!
Speax holds up to 8 teaspoons in liquid! They keep you dry, and are odor resistant.
They come in 5 classic styles – Hi-Waist, Hiphugger, French Cut, Bikini, and Thong. They also come in a range of really stunning colors and patterns!

Can I wear Thinx for 24 hours?

No, Thinx period panties are to be worn for a maximum of 12 hours. After 12 hours you need to take them off and simply put on a new pair.
If you are at home, immediately rinse them. If you are elsewhere, simply pop them in a packet and put it in your bag to be washed later.
No panties should ever be worn for 24 hours, neither should a menstrual cup, tampon or sanitary pad. (300 characters)

What happens if I put Thinx in the dryer?

If you put Thinx in the dryer they will slowly, over time, not perform like they should. You should NEVER put them in the dryer no matter how convenient it is to do so.
It is always recommended to rinse, wash, and then let your pair of Thinx hang dry. Even when they do hang outside, you should remove them once dry.
Thinx should never be in a lot of heat for too long.

Are Thinx toxic?

The CEO of Thinx, Maria Molland, has said that Thinx’ customers’ health and safety are their number one priority.
She mentioned that they work to put out the safest products available, and that all Thinx and Thinx (BTWN) underwear go through exceptionally stringent product safety evaluations.
She said Thinx’ products are always being improved.

Can I use vinegar on Thinx?

Yes, you can! You may be curious how they help!
If you feel that there is a scent left behind in your underwear, submerge them in a basin or sink with 1 to 2 cups of water, and 1 cup of vinegar.
Then, leave them there for 15 to 30 minutes. Afterwards, put them in the washing machine.
Do not use balsamic or apple cider vinegar, just regular vinegar will do!

Is Thinx hygenic?

Thinx period panties have been developed with a very special patented design that takes away all bad odors, and bacteria.
They are also exceptionally absorbent and sweat wicking, so they keep you fresh and dry all day long!
A lot of science has gone into Thinx, making them truly hygienic. You must shower every day of your menstrual cycle for perfect hygiene!

I’m very surprised about the negative reviews for these. I purchased the heavy-days ones for my daughter (12 with autism) who was having difficulty handling pads. These work amazingly well! I can send her to school in a fresh pair in the morning, and she comes home in the same pair (8 hours later) without any leaks. I have 5 for her so she can change three times a day, and I have time to wash them. They can take a while to dry, but I have learned that they will dry in about 8 hours if I put them outside to dry in warm weather or dry them under a ceiling fan in the house. She never complains about how they fit or feel (and she definitely notices how everything fits and feels – so they must be reasonable comfortable for her). If properly washed and dried they do not hold any odors at all.

+ PROS: - the heavy-days ones work very well (last 8 hours on their own without leaking) - hold up well over time (we have been using the same 5 pairs for a year now)
    - CONS: -expensive -washing and drying a bit high maintenance

    • I was looking into purchasing them for both of my daughters mainly for night time. They are new to the whole period thing and have problems with leaking after sleeping on their backs. I have the same issue of I don’t use a panty line on the backside of my underwear at night. Has your daughter ever worn them at night?

These just can’t hold up to the competition. I honestly don’t know why they’re still in business. Very limited selections, none of which are feminine. The product quality is low, they leak unless you’re light spotting, and outrageous in price. The company is owned by a bunch of nut job loony lefties who seem to want push Hitleresque propoganda down customers throats.

+ PROS: Good for light spotting
    - CONS: Company is left and loony Product is too expensive for what you get. They STINK terribly

Stop and think before you buy THINX. They charge you extortionate rates. It will take you years of not buys pads or tampons to be worth it. Not only does this company charge premium rates for their products and shipping but they do not even cover the correct shipping rates or customs fee. I was forced to pay an extra £15 on top of the huge hole this product has made in my purse. For prices such as this, you would expect immaculate quality but this cannot be said. A moon cup and re-usable sanitary towels are much easier to use, far more reasonably priced, just as good for the environment and I haven’t encountered such appalling customer service issues anywhere other than with THINX.

    + PROS: Environmentally friendly.
    - CONS: Difficult to use. Extortionate prices. Appalling customer service. Plenty of other environmentally friendly period products available without these issues.

    • Not to mention some ethical reasons not to buy from them. The boss sexually harrasses the employees, undresses in front of them, won’t give them any kind of maternity or female related leave. VERY anti woman establishment.

Leak w/in 2 hours even while using as back up. Supposedly hold 2 tampons worth, I wouldn’t trust them beyond spotting.

    - CONS: Expensive, don't work.

I have used this brand last year for the first time. Thinx is very cute and worked well for about 2 hours on my light period flow (they do not work alone like the marketing implies) and about 1 hour on my heavy flow, my only problem with Thinx is that it needs to be changed quite often throughout the day. and give the wet feeling. It does ride up in your crack quite a bit. I used the hip huggers.

+ PROS: Nice looking at first glance Constructed well
    - CONS: Rides up in the crack too much for me Not very hygienic to carry soiled underwear throughout the day, should be a better method.

Protection in all the wrong places
The leak protection layer covers the entire panties so that means lots of sweating. Not breathable that’s for sure. And then the area where it matters it’s all too thin and leaks except for your lightest just a smear type of days. Definitely not on day 2. Not easily combinable with a pad cause the pad doesn’t stick to that sleek waterproof layer. And if you are leaking out of a cup, these won’t save you! It was a waste of money for me. But high hopes and good thinking. Go back to the drawing board please!!

+ PROS: One built in protection in an attractive panty
    - CONS: Too little protection where it counts, no need for waterproofing everywhere, jeez that's sweaty

  8. Thinx caught my eye with their flashy imagery and normal looking models. I bought 3 pairs, the hiphugger, the sport and the thong. The thong is so uncomfortable. The material that goes between your legs is way too long and theres like a weird pooch over the front of my vag. Cant wear it for more than and hour without having to pick a wedgie. The main reason I don’t like them though is because they smell worse than your grandmas toe jam. After just a couple of hours with them on I can smell my vag stinking up my whole personal space bubble. I don’t want to stand close to anyone for fear of them smelling it too. On the up side, i’ve never had a leak.

I got large size and I’m about a uk 12, they are a bit big but really comfortable. I think they are awesome, until now i have been using poppy pads (and tampons on heavier days). the pads were pretty uncomfortable especially when exercising ….so it is totally amazing to be completely pads free!!!!!. most of the period I needed no tampons at all, no leaks, no drama , it is only for 24 hours of heavier bleeding that i need to wear a tampon too.
They are easy to rinse out and wash too.
i bought 8 pairs – 4 sport ones and 4 hip huggers, possibly could have managed with 6 but wanted to not have any stress about running out . I’m 44 and feel like thinx are life- changing, wish they could have been around earlier .

+ PROS: yippee pad free, tampon free on lighter days comfortable easy
    - CONS: if you are really heavy then you would definitely need to wear tampons or moon cup with these, - use them as you would have done a pad

Love the panties and would’ve purchased more had they chosen to not send me email after email with their passionate political views. I asked to be removed from their emails, but they kept coming. I’ve got to give it to them; they are passionately vocal and definitely have a consistent message that is far left leaning. I’d have loved to just wear the panties without having to witness the cartoon witches gyrating on a cross in one of their Facebook posts. Love freedom of speech and am sure they’re reaching the crowd they want to reach… I’m just not their target audience. In the market for amazing period panties, again!

+ PROS: Great product! Comfy. I recommend getting more than one pair because the wear and tear came quickly with my 1 pair.
    - CONS: I couldn't get on board with the many many passionately left-leaning political emails I received. I just wanted panties :)
