I have used a moon cup for years and never had any problem with it. This year, I lost it along with my bag while on holiday and had to get a new emergency cup. As a result I got a selena cup from the nearby shop.
First of all, I prefer a moon cup that isn’t coloured. The only selena cup I can get has a weird green colour which I dislike. There are also no aktiv cup at the shop so I got a normal one. I think it is too soft for me so it keeps leaking every time I use it. It wasn’t just a little leak either, it was enough to soak through my clothes. It simply won’t sit in one place but keeps moving around and even turns side way. When I take it out, it was still sealed and not full at all. My flow is quite light and I have never managed to fill a cup in 8-12 hours so I knew overflowing wasn’t an issue. I am also very experienced as I’ve been using moon cup for nearly 5 years now.
So I assume this is because I’m a very sporty person and have strong cervix muscles. The cup is just too soft for me.
I have the Selena cup in large because I have given birth vaginally and I wanted to be able to go a full 12 hours before emptying because I am a bartender and that doesn’t allow me to take long or frequent bathroom breaks. I use the regular version (not the active) and it has actually held up very well, even when I go to the gym five days a week. I did have a little trouble getting the cup to open the first time but after a few minutes I figured out a technique that worked for me and has worked consistently since. I just allow the cup to open lower and then nudge it up to wear I am comfortable wearing it. Even after 12 hours the cup isn’t completely full. I would say I have a pretty average flow and I would leak through tampons and onto my sheets and pajamas at least once every few months if I didn’t wear both a pad and tampon. I use this cup with no back up at all now. It is very soft silicone (still has good resistance but the silicone itself feels smooth) and I love the removal ring. I have a high cervix and some cups are just difficult for me to get out but the ring makes removal very comfortable and easy. Very high quality cup and very good price! I feel like this cup could work for a wide array of woman from low cervix-high cervix and those with sensitivities to some cups because the tapered design is very comfortable and doesn’t put any unwanted pressure on my bladder or urethra (which I have experienced with other cups).
