Vaginal scarring
I have a nickel-sized keloid scar in my vagina due to 3 surgeries that all went through the same place. I just tried a menstrual cup for the first time today. I got a yuuki soft size 1 because I read that they were supposed to be one of the softest (boy did I need more/better research!). My problem is twofold: the stem rubbed against my scar causing pain, and when I did finally get the cup in comfortably, I had a very difficult time getting it back out. Following tips from the net and YouTube, I cut the stem quite short, and then ended up turning the cup inside-out. No ridges, no pain, but also nothing to grip to get it out. I have a very high cervix and had to push the cup far enough in that it didn’t hurt my scar and didn’t feel like it was going to fall out. I read tonight (after finally getting it out) someone suggested hooking a cup with a crochet hook. I also had the idea to put thread through two of the holes at the top of the cup. Does anyone know if either idea might work, or if either is dangerous?
First of all, I’m sorry to hear that you had to have so many surgeries. Second, congrats on making the switch to cups…or at least your willingness to try them 🙂
Yuuki…even the “Soft” version is far from being the softest cup on the market. It compares more to the “average” firm cup out there. Being that the silicone is more firm, this makes the grip rings more firm as well. A softer cup will also have softer gift rings because the silicone is softer. I know many that would be happy to find a firm cup but with a softer stem or vice versa.
Anyhow….with your high cervix, I would go with a “V” shaped cup or long cup, but one without so many speed bumps, thinner grips, or ones that are more rounded. Plus…something softer.

I’ve read about people using a crochet hook to get their cup out and that just scares me o.O However, I can see your logic with the thread through the air holes and it doesn’t seem like a totally bad idea. I have never heard of it before, but you can tug on one to break the seal and then hopefully get the cup out easier. Make sure that when the base of the cup is in reach, to grasp that instead so you don’t end up with a crime scene in your bathroom :O
I do have a friend that ties a thin ribbon to her grip ring and some cups actually have something like that, MeLuna Cup included.
Since I mentioned the ribbon, I do want to point out that she uses it because a thread can easily cut you if it’s too thin and slides against your skin. Maybe a cord would be better than a thread for this. Either way, it’s nice that you’ll be able to boil or soak to sanitizes these or just replace it at a minimal cost.
