Uhm… Unusual problem. Please help?
I’ve just started using a menstrual cup this cycle. I tried one on my previous cycle(diva cup) but the rim pressed on my bladder too much and was just generally uncomfortable. I got a lily cup and it is so much more comfortable. Make my cramps a bit worse, but nothing menstrual can’t help. My problem is a bit strange. The first day I used it went super smoothly. No problems. Then I used it during the night(cleaned and reinserted right before bed). Next morning I found it had leaked a little during the time I’m waking up(fresher blood). So I pulled it out dumped it out, cleaned it the tried to reinsert it. Got it in but kept getting a little leakage. Tried for an hour to get it in correctly but things got sore and swollen so I had to wait for it to calm down. I waited until evening again and got it in correctly again but had the same leakage problem as I wake up. Confusing thing is, is when I try to remove it, no matter how much I pinch it and move it around, the suction doesn’t want to release and I feel like I’m going to pull my insides out. Any thoughts? I really can’t use cotton products because of allergic reaction in my female parts. So I really need to figure this out. ☹😭
Hello There!
Welcome to menstrual cups! It might take some time to get the inserting and positioning correctly, but once you get the hang of it, you won’t run into these problems again (or at least very often).
First of all, are you leaking due to overflow or are you just experiencing a bit of blood spotting?
If you just have small leakage, it could be excess blood finding its way out. To help eliminate this, use a wet wipe or cloth to clean the base and stem as best as you can after the cup is inserted.
If you’re leaking due to overflow, the only thing that you can do is to empty sooner rather than later. Since you’re waking up to leakage, make sure to empty the cup right before you go to bed.
As for the suction during removal, I know that issue very well. I experienced the same thing with this cup. I also had an issue with suction during insertion. It made it very difficult to want to use this cup.
I honestly don’t have any good tips to get the Lily Cup to release easily. It seemed that every time that I pinch the base to try to release the suction, it just suctioned even stronger; like a plunger. The only way that I was able to remove this cup without pulling down on my cervix, was to insert a finger and pull it down by the rim.
But this isn’t about me, and maybe I’m not the best person to advise about removing the Lily Cup.
I hope that someone else who has had success with the Lily Cup can chime in. Until then, if you seek another cup, there are a few cups that are softer and have air holes which may be a better option. You might also want to look into something narrower if you’re experiencing bladder sensitivity or extra cramping.
I’m sorry that I couldn’t be more helpful 🙁
Have a great weekend!
