Still struggle with insertion on some days
I’ve been using a cup for about a year and a half now. Most cycles, I usually get the hang of the insertion (but also have the occasional leak). I’d say I’m about 70% good at insertion. Still, there seems to be cycle days where I simply can’t insert the cup because my vagina feels too dry? Usually this happens by the 3rd or 4th day of my period, despite the first two days of using the same cup. Is it normal to experience this? Sometimes I switch up between my two cups (bell and cone type) depending in what inserts better, but for my last cycle neither seemed to insert smoothly, at least not without having to force it & hurt myself a bit. Anyone else experiencing the same?
I also find myself switching between different cups either for the length or because I’m just more sensitive during different days of my period (extra pressure).
Feeling drier in the latter days of your period is normal. Your period slows down so there isn’t as much flow to provide lubrication.
Lately, my periods have been either very little or non-existent when they used to be very heavy and very long, probably because of my age. Anyhow, this sometimes makes it difficult for me to insert my cup/s as well. A tiny drop of water-based personal lubricant helps a LOT. I normally apply the lube to my labia, rinse my hand, and then insert my cup. I find that even the tiny drop of lube can make the cup slip out of my hand if I don’t rinse it off :O
Good luck and good health,
