Removing cup when it’s stuck
I have successfully used a menstrual cup for many months. Last month though I literally tried so hard to get it out. It was my last day so I knew there was going to be either no blood or very little. I did everything the internet suggested to me. I was able to reach the top with my fingers but was unable to break the seal. So as a last resort I had to have my fiance dig it out of me…ugh. thankfully there was no blood. But now I’m scared to use it again because I really do not want to have that problem again. Any advice?
Hi There!
Sadly, I’ve had to ask for help removing one of my cups, as well. Thankfully, both of us have someone willing to dig in a retrieve the missing item :O
I was really scared to use that particular cup again, so I understand your worry.
I’m not exactly sure why the change for you, but I do know that our cervix moves back upwards towards the end of our period. If it moves up higher for you, it may be one of the reasons for the difficult removal.
My cup was also on the softer side. So every time that I pinched the base, only the body was compressed while the rim stayed in place. Had I had a firmer cup, pressing the side of it would likely cause the rim to also collapse.
The other issue that I had was that the cup was on the shorter side and I normally have a medium to high cervix. During the end of my period, my cervix moved back up and took the cup with it. I had difficulties reaching the rim to release the seal. I find that slightly longer cups make it easier for me to reach.
My advice would be to maybe try something longer and firmer. What cup are you currently using?
