“Leaking” is normally caused by –
- residual blood
- wrong size
Using a cup take some trial and error. There’s a different learning curve for everyone (if any). An inexperienced person may place a cup incorrectly or they may use it longer than their flow allows. They can choose the wrong shape or size for their body or pick something that’s too firm for their comfort.
A new user normally experiences some “leaking”. However, this “leaking” may be caused by residual blood which can be easily avoided by wiping the grip rings/stem with a wet wipe or cloth after inserting the cup. Residual blood is the blood that coats the vaginal walls even after a cup is inserted. This blood slides down with gravity and ends up on your undies. A lot of people think that they are leaking from the cup when this is actually what’s going on.
Overflow happens often when we’re just learning “when” we need to empty the cup. So flow vs. capacity. If you have a very heavy flow, then, of course, you’ll probably want something with a higher capacity so that you have more time to do what you need to before finding a restroom.
Wrong size – again capacity. A wrong size may also allow the cup to shift around causing leaking.
Since you’re very active, I would suggest something on the firmer side unless you have bladder sensitivities. Something like the Yuuki Cup “Soft” or “Classic”. Their “Soft” version is more of a medium firmness as they have an even softer cup.
However, if your cervix is low or very low, the Yuuki may be too long and feel uncomfortable.
I think all new users experience one of these, but knowing beforehand really helps avoid it 🙂
