No cervix…??
i had to have my cervix removed due to having cervical cancer. I have extremely painful periods. 1 very heavy day (like 2-3 hours that’s all) and the rest is fairly light. Do you think I could use a cup? I have no cervix, just a scarred stitch in there. Thanks
Hi There!
I’m sorry to hear that you had cervical cancer 🙁 But I’m happy to hear that they were able to remove it and that you’re doing well.
Since none of us are doctors on this site, I would probably advise asking your physician before using a menstrual cup.
We mention our cervix placement when using a menstrual cup properly. If you don’t have a cervix, it might be hard to make sure that it’s placed correctly. If you can still feel where you’re cervix was it might be possible. ….To be honest, I have never encountered this question before and I don’t want to give you false hope.
I will suggest another alternative to menstrual cups, though! You can look like menstrual discs 🙂 There are two on the market that are reusable. However, one is easier to obtain (at least for now. Although I’ve had correspondence recently with the other company who is hoping to sell worldwide soon!).
The one that’s easier to find and buy, is called the Ziggy Cup. It’s made by the Intimina Company who also make the Lily Cup “Original”, Lily Cup “Compact” and Lily Cup “One”. They also have a HUGE line of “pleasure toys” (HUGE pun is and is not intended :P)
Menstrual Discs sit differently inside of the vaginal canal. They don’t sit up and around the cervix like many of the cups do. It resembles more of a diaphragm and creates kind of like a hammock or dam to catch the flow.
The part of the disc that’s inserted first reaches the back of the vaginal canal nearest to the rectum, and then the last bit to enter gets tucked behind your pubic bone.
Since this one won’t be “sealing” around any scar tissue, it might be more comfortable….again, I can’t only guess.
I’m sorry that I couldn’t give you a definite answer, but I hope that I gave you another option and insight. You can probably ask your doctor over the phone without having to pop in for a visit if they suggest for or against a cup or disc.
Good Luck & Good Health to you! <3
