MyCup giving me mixed signals
Hi there!
I’ll try to keep it short..
I’m about 50kg, approaching 30 years old, have not given birth before and am semi-active with exercising. Medium-low cervix. Have used cups for a few years now.
I’ve been using MyCup size 2 large + large Fleurcup, and have some issues that I’m confused over – hoping somebody could help..
Fleurcup is fantastic, opens up in 2 seconds for me every time and removing it is easy with no mess whatsoever. I don’t feel any crampings too. However sometimes I feel that it’s not completely sealed (even though I’ve checked that it always is) and I can feel some wetness at times with it inside on my heavier days. I’ve only had it leak on me once. This led me to think that maybe I need a different shaped cup to prevent this feeling.
So I tried MyCup size 2 and found that I’ve NEVER ever had any leaks, but I feel the urge to pee every few minutes. Sometimes I get cramps much more with this cup. MyCup is so wide that I can’t actually fit a finger up to the rim to check if it’s fully opened, so I can only do that at the base of the cup. I find it difficult to open most of the time, and always makes me wish that I had the Fleurcup boiled instead. However I really do love MyCup because it has measuring lines that I can record into my app if I need to talk to my GP, and that it’s never ever failed me in terms of leaking. I just don’t like how it sometimes blocks my bladder, and is always messy to remove on heavy days.
I have tried MyCup size 1 and Sckooncup size 1, but had leaking issues with them, even though they were both SO comfortable. I’m very interested in trying a large Sckooncup to see if that would be more suitable for me in terms of its softness.
Question 1: Does it sound like I need a large softer cup that is bell-shaped?
Question 2: I really love cups with measuring lines + colours. Is there a cup out there with measuring lines that is perhaps softer and with fun colours?
Sorry for making this post so long. Hoping to find some answers..
Thanks!
Thank you for providing some great information to help me understand your situation.
The Fleur Cup sounds like it’s been working pretty well for you, but I understand the worry of it leaking although it has only actually leaked on you once. This sounds like a good shape for your anatomy, though.
Be aware that not every cup will create a noticeable seal from one person to the next. If you give it a gentle tug, it should at least have a slight resistance. If it slides easily, that’s when it doesn’t create a seal at all.
The MyCup is a great cup for capacity, but it is on the wider and firmer side which is likely causing the urge to urinate more frequently. Something softer or a bit more narrow might be a better option.
I know that you’re an experienced cup user, but I’m gonna suggest trying some opening methods that might help. You can use it on future cups since this cup is causing bladder issues.
Only insert the cup halfway. Let it open, and then use a single finger to push it the rest of the way and into place.
Insert it halfway. Use a finger to press it against the vaginal wall and then slowly allow it to open against your finger.
Sometimes when we insert the cup completely, the cervix gets in the way of the rim opening.
Have you ever tried turning the MyCup inside out? It will narrow it a bit and hopefully ease the extra pressure. Please only do this if you’re comfortable with removing the cup without a stem. It’s safe to use this way if it’s more comfortable or at least until you find something else that works for you.
The small MyCup and Sckoon Cup are short in comparison to other average small-sized cups on the market. If your cervix is sitting deeply in them, it could be causing the premature leaking.
The large Sckoon Cup is still on the shorter side of other average large-sized cups. It will give you extra capacity to accommodate your cervix and flow, but if your cervix is still sitting deeply, then it will leak sooner than later.
Question 1: Does it sound like I need a large softer cup that is bell-shaped?
A: Since you have been able to use both the large Fleur and MyCup (length) comfortably, I would say that it is a safe bet that other large, bell-shaped cups will “fit” just fine.
Some cups that might interest you are (in no particular order):
medium or large LaliCup
large Soft Saalt Cup
large Lena Sensitive
large Si-Bell
small or large Super Jennie
small Venus Cup
Question 2: I really love cups with measuring lines + colours. Is there a cup out there with measuring lines that is perhaps softer and with fun colours?
A: Of the cups that are mentioned above, these are the ones that have measurement markings:
medium or large LaliCup
small or large Super Jennie
small Venus Cup
Let me know if you have questions about any or all of these cups and I’ll try my best to provide you with answers.
Until then, good luck and stay safe & health,
