Menstrual cup opening halfway
Hi! I have tried inserting the menstrual cup but it opens up half way into insertion. The cup is a firm one. Do you suggest I get a softer cup that might hold the fold until the whole cup is inside?
Hello There!
I found two ways that have helped me with more than one issue when inserting a very firm cup.
1. Insert your index finger along with the folded cup.
There’s a tampon that I used to use that didn’t have an applicator. A finger was used to push it in. The only difference for me was that my finger was next to the cup instead of under it.
This kept the cup folded while I inserted it all the way and was ready to let the rim expand. This also helped shield my cervix from getting hit when the very firm rim did open.
2. Let the rim expand lower in the vaginal canal.
With this method, you actually insert the cup halfway on purpose. Allow the cup to open and the rim to expand and then use a single finger to push the cup into place.
This also helps shield the cervix from getting hit as well as makes sure that the rim is open before getting pushed up around the cervix.
Sometimes, a cup can push the cervix to the side and be uncomfortable as well as cause the cup to shift and leak.
If neither of these methods works for you and a firm cup is causing you further issues, I would suggest a slightly softer cup as they are easier to manipulate. However, extremely soft cups have different issues.
I hope something here works for you.
Good Luck! <3
