Menstrual cup leakage issue
Hi
I am using the menstrual cup for the first time. Insertion and removal is fine for me but I am experiencing leaks even when the cup is fully open with proper suction in my vagina.
I am using a small size sirona cup. I have used a finger to feel if the rim is open and I am sure it is. I don’t think the cervix is outside the cup since I couldn’t find it with the finger. But the cup still leaks. It doesn’t give me a problem if I am walking or simply sitting but once I go to pee it starts leaking. I don’t think it is residual blood too as it happens everytime I go to pee. What should I do?
Hello There,
It sounds like you’ve checked all the boxes on my list except one. If your cervix is sitting inside of the small cup, it could be compromising the already low capacity. Either you have a low cervix or the cup is sitting high allowing your cervix to sit deep within the cup. People who experience this will often find the cup is only half full when they remove it.
However, it could be possible that when you’re using the toilet, you bear down enough to dislodge the cup that it breaks the seal allowing blood to spill over. I’ve only experienced this with menstrual discs (some users call it “auto-empty”) and a couple of cups with a notch in the (“anti-suction”) rim.
I have the Sirona Cups but mixed them up in a box of $5 or less cups that all look the same. I’m not sure if it was a soft cup or not, but a soft silicone may also contribute to the issue.
The only suggestion that I have is to try a little larger cup if you’re comfortable using one. It will accommodate your cervix and flow while giving you a bit more capacity.
Good Luck <3
