Menstral cup started leaking
I have used a divacup for the lasst 2 years with no problems. The last 2 months I have started leaking. Badly. I have had no children or anything else that might cause……looseing? Is it possible I need a bigger cup? There are no visable holes and I have 2 of the same cup that I interchange per cycle.
Hi Beck!
Are you leaking due to overflow or just some spotting?
I know you’ve been using the Diva with no prior problems but sometimes we can have residual slobber during the heavier days and blood that’s coating our vaginal walls or stuck in our vaginal fornix can be finding it’s way out seeming to be leaking. After you insert your cup, squat, bear down, and wipe the grip rings and/or stem with a wet cloth or wipe to rid some of the excess blood. See if that helps a bit.
Has your flow been heavier than before? Has anything changed in the last couple of years? Weight gain, medications, stopped exercising…etc? OR frequent coughing, sneezing, heavy lifting (such as at work) or started exercising?
Changes in your hormones might be causing a heavier period. Frequent coughing, sneezing, heavy lifting or exercising might have made your uterus or bladder prolapse making a cup sit or “fit” differently or just make the cup bear down more than it used to.
Age might make your pelvic floor muscles weaker, but if you do kegels frequently you might have also made them hypertonic (too strong). Both can change the way a cup works with your body.
Other factors may be causing this change as well, but I would suggest trying another cup. Perhaps a cup that’s more firm if you don’t have a sensitive bladder, or a wider cup – more bell shaped but with a regular style rim as to keep the cup from migrating too high.
I find that when my bladder has a slight prolapse, a firmer cup is easier to open and doesn’t collapse against the extra pressure. It also helps my stress incontinence during that time too.
I’m sorry, but there are too many factors that might be causing your issues. The only thing that I could really suggest is trying a different cup that’s firmer.
If the DivaCup fits you comfortably and you would rather stay with a “V” shaped cup, you might try the Yuuki Cup in Soft or Classic or the Lunette large.
If you aren’t opposed to trying a bell shaped cup and aren’t worried that you won’t be able to reach it, you can try the Lena Cup “Original”, AmyCup “Crystal”, or Ruby Cup.
Again, I’m sorry that I can’t give you a definite answer as to why this is happening. I wish you luck with finding a cup that will work as well as your Diva once did <3
