Leaking more than gets in cup
So I’ve been using the menstrual cup for maybe close to 6 months now. At first, I used a very cheap cup and barely any blood got in the cup. So I thought, it was just because it wasnt a well made cup so I bought a Lena cup. It seemed work better. At least sometimes it would work, it would fill up properly. But sometimes I would have issues. On and off. Started my period yesterday. And the cup hasnt caught almost any blood. I have tried different folds. I have done my best to make sure it has popped. I’ve read that you need to find your cervix. I’ve looked up how to find it and watched videos. I still cant find it. But it doesnt matter. I can put it up high, or low and it would catch blood. I’m getting so frustrated. I thought it was such a great thing when it worked. But now in 2 days it hasnt caught more than a few small drops of blood. I’m tired of wearing pads with it and I’m so close to going back to tampons. I was super excited for this but I dont know what else I can do to make it work. Any advice would be amazing.
I’m so sorry to hear that you’re not having any luck with the Lena Cup 🙁 I can hear your frustration.
I hope that I can shed some light on what might be causing your issues.
Not being able to locate your cervix makes it really hard to know if the cup is positioned correctly. If the cup is not right under or right around the cervix, blood will not be collected. It is possible (and common) that the rim of the cup is inserted past the cervix or has pushed the cervix to the side. The body of the cup can still open and the rim may be slightly, but it will not be collecting the flow.
You mentioned not being able to locate your cervix and that is often common, too. I know it may seem redundant, but have you tried locating your cervix a couple of days before your period or a couple of days into your period? According to fertility specialists, this is when the cervix is normally at its lowest point. It may be easier to locate it at that time.
If you already tried this and still can’t find it, I would suggest a cup that has a wider diameter. This may take the guesswork out of placement as the opening of the cup is wider and will cover more area. Something like the Super Jennie, Merula XL, or Tampax Cup.
I would also suggest inserting the cup 1/2 way and then allow it to open before pushing it upward. This will ensure that the cup opened completely before it is fully inserted. You can try this with the Lena to see if it helps.
Do you have a hard time reaching the Lena Cup when it’s time to remove it?
At the point when you are new to the menstrual cup insurgency, figuring out how to measure how frequently to change your menstrual cup can take some training… … particularly in the event that you have just at any point utilized cushions.
In the event that you have been a tampon client our proposal to our clients is to leave your menstrual cup in approx. 1 hour longer than you would wear a tampon. So if on your substantial day you can wear a tampon for state 2 hours before you have to transform it, at that point expel your menstrual cup following 3 hours. In the event that your cup isn’t totally full, at that point you realize you can go longer before it will require exhausting on your overwhelming days.
Hi! Just to answer, no i havent tried searching for my cervix before my period but will try next time. And also i never have a problem retrieving the cup. Whether its pushed in far or close to the opening I can pull it out or push it to a point I can pull it out. Also after posting this I was able to get the cup in a place where it isnt leaking. But I’m going to guess that mamaymamaybmamaymamaybe in this day or two period my cervix may have slightly moved up? Because from memory the first 2 days of my period is where I have the pproblems. Last few days I can normally get it to work. I thought before it was ‘practise’ but now I’m thinking it’s because of where my cervix is and when it moves?
