Leaking Mooncup UK with a low cervix?
Hi I am currently using the Mooncup UK menstrual cup and I am experiencing leakage issues. During my period my cervix is low and when i remove the cup its always half full i’m guessing my cervix is inside the cup and taking up space? I can open the cup but it seems to squish really easily just after i put it in. where is the cervix supposed to sit above or in the cup as its low? do i need a shorter or bigger cup? would i need a firmer one than the mooncup UK? what one would you recommend?
I only have the MoonCup USA version, but I’ve heard that they’re the same in design. If that’s so, the holes on this cup are quite low. This can be a reason that this cup is leaking on you. Most air holes on a cup are closer to the top of the rim of the cup and not positioned so low.
Your cervix could be sitting inside of the cup compromising the capacity. You’ll probably want to find a higher capacity cup or at least one with holes positioned higher near the rim.
For some, their cervix sits inside of the cup. For others, the cup can sit right below their cervix. Either position is correct as long as the cervix isn’t sitting on the outside of the rim…or pushed off to the side.
This video is about a different cup, but at time stamp 9:40 you can see what I mean:
Are you leaking or spotting? Normally there is some residual blood coating the walls of your vagina. This blood starts to travel down and ends up on your undies. After you insert your cup, bear down and wipe the grip rings and stem to make sure it’s not the cause.
Since you mentioned that your cervix is low, you might want to check out some bell-shaped cups like the Lena, LaliCup, Super Jennie, Fleur. The round base gives your some extra capacity space. The LaliCup & Super Jennie are larger capacity cups that allows your cervix to sit inside the cup without taking up all of the capacity. The cup in the video above is a great cup for a low cervix. It holds a good amount at 38ml and has no air holes. Watch the rest of the video for more info.
Let me know if there’s anything else I might be able to answer for you. Good Luck! 🙂
