Is it normal to feel pain when I insert/remove my menstrual cup?
It hurts when I insert/remove the cup. Once it’s positioned well inside my virgina it doesn’t hurt until I try to remove it. Also, I can’t easily remove the cup because if I want to push and grab the cup it hurts and air does not flow so the cup tends to remain in its sticked position. What can I do to reduce the pain? I’m using lubricant to insert(It’s much better than not using it but it still hurts). Is it normal to feel pain using menstrual cup?
Hi Olivia!
I’m so sorry to hear that you’re not having an easy time with your menstrual cup 🙁 It shouldn’t hurt at any time during inserting, wearing, or removing a cup. If it is, it might not be a good match for you.
First of all, if you’re new to using it…it might take some practice getting things positioned correctly. It might be uncomfortable because you notice “something” is there, but it still shouldn’t cause you any pain.
If you can’t reach your cup to remove it easily, you might want to consider a cup that has a little more length and maybe a little softer. What cup are you using now? Do you know if your cervix is low or high?
Here’s some info on cervical height: https://menstrualcupreviews.net/how-to-choose-a-menstrual-cup/#Cervical_Height
There are some cups that are a little more narrow, if you feel like the cup is too wide and dragging on the way out.
If you are experiencing pain of the cup brushing or hitting your urethra, you can insert your thumb nearest to your bladder to push the rim down so it’s guarded.
If neither of these two things are the pain you speak of, please tell me some specific details of where it hurts and what you’re doing when you experience the pain.
I hope we can figure this out or find a cup that’s a bit more comfortable for you without any pain 🙁
