I’m Having Difficulty Inserting My Menstrual Cup
I’m a 26 year old virgin and I have a Cora size 1. I tried using it for the first time today on a dry run using lube, using both the punch down fold and the triangle fold but it didn’t work, it felt like there was something blocking it from going further. I have a low cervix, maybe that’s the problem? But wouldn’t that hurt if I hit it? Please help, my period is starting soon!
Hi Cereal,
First of all, I just want to make sure that you’re using a water-based lube with your cup. Other types can and will deteriorate a cup more quickly.
Second, the interference during insertion can be due to a low cervix and/or the hymen if it’s still intact.
Low cervix – if your cervix is low and you insert the cup completely into the vagina, the cervix can be in the way of letting the rim expand. Try inserting the cup halfway, then allow it to open before using a single finger to push it up into place. This will also eliminate the rim from hitting your cervix while open, which may hurt.
Hymen – Even if the hymen is intact, it is still possible to use a cup. You’re already trying this cup with lubricant, but also try squatting on the ground which will help to open you up.
A cup with a narrow diameter might be more comfortable during insertion. While the Cora Cup isn’t too wide (especially the small), some other narrow cups might be more comfortable to insert.
The Ruby Cup, Sckoon Cup, MyCup (NZ), and MeLuna (standard sizing) small all have a narrower diameter and rounder bases that might be more comfortable for someone with a low cervix.
Good Luck
