Do using menstrual cups cause menstrual cramps or make them worse?
Honestly, it really depends on the cup and who’s using it. Cups fit differently for different people. Some people need a very firm cup and can use them comfortably. Others might find that same cup to situated itself in a sensitive area that can cause cramping. The shape of the cup can make a big difference, and the size as well. It may be a combination of things.
I personally, can use a bell shaped cup, a large cup, and a firm cup but a LARGE firm bell shaped cup will cause me to cramp quite horribly. However, I can use a SMALL firm bell shaped cup with out a problem.
If you find that a particular cup causes you to cramp or cramp more, you have several other cups that may work better. At least you’re one cup closer to finding the one that works for you! 😀
It has not been proven or disapproved that menstrual cups cause menstrual cramps or worsen them. In fact, many menstrual cup users note that while using a menstrual cup during menstruation that they felt less cramps, and that the use of their menstrual cup notably alleviated the severity of their menstrual cramps.
