Menstrual Cup Discoloration
Maybe it’s just my body chemistry, but does anyone else’s Lima cup get discolored even after sterilization? I’ve used vinegar and boiled it in hopes it would return to normal color.
Hi There!
Several of my menstrual cups get stains over time, as well. Some stain way quicker than others. When a cup starts to get unsightly for my own liking, I soak it in a 50/50 mix of over the counter Hydrogen Peroxide and water for an hour or so depending on how stained it is or how quickly the stains dissipate. I normally see the stains start to fall off within the first few minutes.
Hydrogen Peroxide (H202) turns into water (H20) after being exposed to light in a short amount of time. That’s why it’s packaged in dark bottles. Although this is a proven method of getting rid of stains on a menstrual cup, use at your own risk. Some companies suggest ONLY using their cup wash. In my opinion, a specific cup wash is not necessary and only generates the company more money. Any pH balanced wash or mild soap will do.
Hot water sets stains, even in clothing. Make sure to rinse all traces of blood from the cup with cold water first, before switching to hot or boiling water.
