Cup won’t open
Hi.
My first time using a menstraul cup is the June cup and it worked perfectly when I first used it. It opened and there was no spilling. Very easy to use.
However when I tried to use it again at the end of my period and at the start of my period the next month, the cup would not open – meaning that there was no seal (I checked with my finger). It was almost as though there was no space in my vaginal canal for the cup to expand.
So I got the June Cup Mini and the same issue, the cup would not open after insertion. I’ve used the c-fold and punch down method but nothing has worked so far.
What would you suggest I do?
Hi There!
In a squatting position, aim the folded cup down and back towards your tailbone. The cervix isn’t normally located straight up into the vaginal canal. Inserting it straight up can cause the cervix to block the cup from expanding or result in leaking, shifting or rotating, and/or discomfort and pressure.
If the rim won’t expand or if you feel any dents in the cup after insertion, wiggle the cup down and then use a finger to push it back up into place. If the cervix is blocking the rim from expanding, wiggling it down will let the cervix correct itself.
Alternatively, you can insert the cup halfway and then let it open (away from the cervix) before using a finger to push it into place.
One last method is to insert the cup and press the body to the vaginal wall. This will create a void for the cup to expand. Allow the cup to expand slowly against your finger while you release the fold then push it into place.
This is also a great method for very firm cups so that they don’t open too quickly against your cervix.
I hope this helps!
Good Luck! <3
