Cup sliding, low cervix
What’s the deal with cups sliding down? I have a low cervix. My first cup was a Rebel Kate set (before I learned that they didn’t have a great reputation). I couldn’t really get either the small or large to work. I have a bladder more on the sensitive side, I am not extremely active, and I do have a little bit of stress incontinence, after having 3 children. I tried a Sckoon size 1 because of the length, and it didn’t leak, but it did slide down during normal wear. I returned the Sckoon and I am currently trying a Lena sensitive size 1. Slightly longer than the Sckoon, but still a soft cup. The Lena slides down during normal wear too. Do I need a firmer cup (which I am hesitant to get, because of the pressure I feel on my bladder), or a wider diameter rim, to keep it from sliding? I am about at my wit’s end! I desperately want to switch from tampons to a cup, but so far I am not having any success!
Do you feel bladder pressure with the small Sckoon or Lena Sensitive?
How’s the “fit” with these cups? Too long? Feels fine?
With stress incontinence, a little pressure from a menstrual cup can actually apply a bit of pressure to your urethra to help stop small leaks. Provided it doesn’t cause you pain or extra cramping.
With the sliding issues that you’re having, I would suggest trying a different shape. Both the Sckoon and the Lena are bell-shaped cups with flared rims.
Here are a few cups that I’m hoping might work better for you:
(Shortest to longest)
Merula (“original”, not XL) – 38ml to the rim – This cup is a “ball” version. It doesn’t have any air holes and some people experience a very good seal with it. Make sure to break the seal (suction) before tugging down on it. The shape of this cup makes it feel firmer than it really is since the roundness of it makes it want to pop outward. The body on this cup is similar in firmness to the small Sckoon rim.
MeLuna (“shorty”, large or XL) – 22-27ml to the rim – This cup has a wide diameter but is on the short side. The body of this cup is about the same as the small Lena sensitive.
Saalt (small) – 25ml to the rim – This cup is similar to the Lena in shape but has a bit more rounded body and a regular rim instead of a flared rim. The body on this cup is a little softer than the rim of the small Sckoon.
(Lena would be here in length)
MyCup (small) – 29ml to the rim – This cup is also similar in shape to the Lena but with a wider body. The base of the cup stays wider whereas the Saalt Cup tapers to a point faster. The body on this cup is similar in firmness to the small Sckoon rim.
(Sckoon would be here in length)
If you’re after something on the softer side, let me know and I’ll see what I can come up with.
If you have any questions or concerns about any of these cups, I’ll try my best to answer them for you.
