Crooked Menstrual Cup
I recently purchased the Lily Cup size A. It was much easier and less painful to insert than the other cup I tried (I had the Lena sensitive and I found insertion and removal painful, but it was very comfortable once it was in), however after I had been wearing my Lily cup for a while, the cup turned itself crooked. The stem was digging into my vaginal wall, but the cup stayed sealed. It became uncomfortable after a while so I tried to nudge the cup into a more normal position, but it went back to the crooked position after about 20 minutes. I then removed the cup and emptied it and reinserted it, but after a few hours it went crooked again. The cup was still sealed perfectly every time it went crooked, but it was a bit uncomfortable to have the stem digging into my vaginal wall. I don’t really know that trimming the stem would help because for the few hours before it goes crooked, it is so comfortable. It always leaned towards the same side. I tried to insert the longer end of the cup toward my tailbone, as I’ve heard that works best for most people. Do you have any ideas as to what may be causing this or how to fix it?
Hello There!
Is the cup collecting when this happens? This is one of the common things that can happen when the cervix blocks the rim from opening correctly. It happens often when a cup is completely inserted before letting it expand. It can feel fine when inserted and even create a seal, but not where it’s supposed to.
To help eliminate this, wiggle or rock the cup down a bit after it’s inserted and then push it up into place. This will let your cervix correct itself.
Alternatively, you can insert the cup halfway and then let it open before using a finger to push it into place.
The Lily Cup original is an ergonomically shaped cup. To use as intended, the longer side should be closer to the floor in its final resting position (the shorter side pressed to your bladder).
If neither of these things works, I honestly don’t know what’s going on. Since you mentioned that the cup stays sealed when it goes crooked, it might be worth it to try trimming the stem down a bit to see if that relieves any of the discomforts even if it turns.
Good Luck! <3
I believe it was open all the way because it was collecting blood and I didn’t experience any leakage. I inserted it with the longer side towards the floor (I was sitting). Maybe my cervix is just a weird shape or something.
I’m sorry, the only suggestion other than to try a different cup would be to trim the stem and see if it feels better. I don’t think it’s the shape or position of your cervix. Sometimes a cup just isn’t the right one.
I think a standard “V”-shaped cup with a stick stem might be a better option. In my own experience, the solid hard silicone at the base of the Lily Cup was still uncomfortable even with the stem completely trimmed and filed down on the Lily Cup original.
The Diva Cup or Casco Cup have long bodies and short stick stems if you’re interested in some options.
Good Luck <3
