Cervix feels like it’s being pulled out?
Hi again, I thought I’d make another post because I still have questions as a newbie :,) last post I made was about pain while inserting and removing my cup. Real quick, I’m 18, never wore a menstrual cup until a few days ago, and I’m using a Diva Cup size 1. I’m also sexually active and have a high cervix if that’s in any way important.
So this is the second full day I was using the diva cup. I put it in in the morning and took it out twice, after lunch (because it was leaking) and before going to bed. I’m getting the hang of putting it in, but it’s still just as bad pulling it out. There’s not as much pain caused by my fingers scratching my walls, so I think with time and technique it’ll get better. For some reason, pulling it out was alright at lunch, but I was crying in the shower the second time I was taking it out, and that happened yesterday too. I think I start panicking because it takes me many attempts and it scares me. It’s just the suction man. Squatting helps a bunch for grasping though. I’ve gone all the way up and pushed on the sides of the cup, held it and felt air going in, managed to get it close to the exit after like 20 attempts and right as I’m pulling it out, I make sure the cup is folded in two. I’m 100% sure it’s folded, so there shouldn’t be any suction right? Like it’s not open at all. And as I take it out, I just feel like my cervix is falling out/being pulled hard. There’s no pain but it’s a super gross feeling. I’m too scared of putting the cup in again. And my cervix feels all weird now. Is that a thing I should get used to? Since I’ve only worn pads all my life (not even tampons), this is all really new to me. Thanks again <3
Hi again!
Day two – cup adventures continues…
Yay! – that you’re a little closer to a smooth insertion. Again, there should never be any pain during any process of using a cup. I think that because it’s new and somewhat awkward, you’re just still not sure where and when everything goes. I hope that it will get even easier and less painful with practice. If it starts to hurt in any way, try adjusting yourself, your fingers, the fold, the angle…etc. And a water-based lube can really help ease it in, hopefully without pain.
So onto the removal 🙁 I’m thinking that a wider cup might actually be more comfortable for you. I’ve spoken with several people who believe that a cup suctioned tightly around their cervix because the [rim] opening was so narrow. One person described it as if they were putting a fitted cap on a pop bottle. They said that it was hard to position it exactly around their cervix during placement and that they felt like because the cup just fit around the cervix, it plugged up the air holes creating a strong suction no matter how much they broke the seal before removing it.
It not only caused problems during insertion but also caused difficult and sometimes painful removals.
I’m not positive, but this could be your case as well. The thing that boggles me is that you mentioned that there is no pain. If the cup pulled down on your cervix, it would be uncomfortable or even painful.
Again, I would suggest trying a different cup if this doesn’t get better. Although there is a learning curve to using cups, you should see/feel progress (which you have so far).
Knowing that you’re sexually active (if it is penis/vagina penetration) makes me think that you would be fine using a larger/wider diameter. The Venus Cup comes in a two-pack that consists of both a small and large cup. It is softer than the Diva Cup and the large has a wider diameter. These are considered high capacity cups if you have a heavy flow, but like all cups, it can be used even if you’re not bleeding. It’s affordable and they always have discounts (PM them on FB @venuscup). The two-pack is cheaper than a single Diva Cup but that didn’t affect the quality.
