Can the Ziggy cup get lost inside you during sex?
I’m keen to try the Ziggy cup but don’t really understand how it won’t get pushed deep inside you during sex, too deep to retrieve?
I’ve only tried the Organicup so far (but not for sex as I don’t think that would work). It seems to slip up behind my pubic bone and is a struggle to get out, although I’ve not had much practice.
I think I need to get more familiar with the inside of my vagina. Lots of women talk about how high their cervix is. I wouldn’t have a clue.
Anyway, my point is I’d really like to try the Ziggy cup but I don’t understand how it can’t get lost? Does the penis kind of go alongside it rather than pushing it up further into you? And isn’t it easily dislodged during sex?
Detailed advice would be very welcome!!
Thank you for breaking down your thoughts. It makes it so much easier to follow your line of thinking and questions 🙂

– When the body is aroused, the uterus will elevate and the vaginal canal will expand upwards and outwards up to 200 times its normal size. That’s how different sizes and shapes of “objects” can be inserted. The disc shouldn’t get pushed deeper, but because the vaginal canal will shift, the disc (or cup) will follow. During and immediately after arousal, the cup or disc may be difficult to retrieve. Just wait an hour or two to let your body return to normal before removing it.
*Note: Empty the cup/disc before penetration, or even earlier before arousal. It will give you a fresh cup to start with and eliminate any overflow leaking.

-I have had penetration while using the OrganiCup although it is against the companies suggestion. It was a risk I took with this cup and many others with no issues. Anyhow, if you are having difficulties removing this cup on a regular basis, try squatting and bearing down with your muscles (like you’re trying to poop). It will bring your cup closer to the vaginal opening and hopefully give you better reach. If that doesn’t help, you might consider the large-sized OrganiCup or a longer cup.
*Note: If you’re not comfortable with the diameter of a large-sized cup, there are narrow cups that still have extra length such as the Diva Cup Model 0 and 1 (teen & small) or the Casco Cup size small (not mini).

-Since you mentioned that the small OrganiCup is hard to reach, it leads me to believe that you have a medium to a high cervix.

– The vagina canal is like a balloon; stretchy and returns back to normal, and only one way in and out like a cul-de-sac. There’s no other place for the cup/disc to go. It will stay in the vaginal canal (unless you have a rare medical condition in which there is a tunnel from your vaginal canal to your bladder or rectum.)
The Ziggy Cup has a balloon-like reservoir. It is very thin and stretchy. It allows the penis to push and rub against it without detection by you or your partner while not interfering with the rim of the disc.

Some extra details of my personal experience 🙂
There aren’t many menstrual discs on the market at the moment, but they all have their own pros and cons.
-The FlexDisc & SoftDisc (same design, same company owns them) have very rigid rims. Some users feel like these discs are too firm or too large. They are one-time-use items. I have always leaked with these. I believe it’s because they don’t move with my body.
-The Lumma Disc is a medium-firm disc with a stem that can be trimmed if needed. This has been the easiest disc to insert and position. They are the only brand that offers different sizes; small, medium, and large. The large Lumma Disc is the same size as the Flex/SoftDisc, Ziggy Cup (without the ergonomic shape), and Nixit. However, because it’s softer than the Flex/SoftDisc, it is easier to maneuver and position while not feeling too large. They normally have a Buy1Get1 on their site. I would suggest the medium and large if you decide to try them.
-The Ziggy Cup and Nixit are both made of ultra-soft silicone. While this sounds comfortable, it has caused issues with inserting for many hopeful users. These discs also have a double-rim feature that is supposed to help keep them from leaking. I can’t say that it actually helps, but it creates a dragging feeling during removal. The best description I could give is that it feels like removing a dry tampon (if you have ever used one). Other individuals have described it as a burning or stinging sensation.
*On a side note, everyone will have a different experience with any given menstrual cup or menstrual disc. Some will love one brand or design over the other while the next person is the opposite.
If you decide to try penetration while using a menstrual cup, just go slow until you’re comfortable. Communication is the key! The penis will slide next to it. Typically, the penis doesn’t withdrawal all the way out so there is little chance of it getting poked by the stem. Use only water-based lubricant if needed.
Some cups dull the sensation while others heighten it. My husband says that he can feel that there’s “something” there because it feels different but it has never been unpleasant. There have been a couple of cups with firm grip rings that he didn’t care for as much, but it’s never made him stop. We have used over 50 different cups/sizes.
*Neither menstrual discs nor cups will protect you from STDs or STI’s. They will also not prevent an unplanned pregnancy. Use at your own risk.
Good Luck!! <3
