Advice on a new cup
hello there. I’ve been reading for hours and days all that I can to get some guidance on if I need a new cup.
i have the Lunette 2. Here is what I’m dealing with. My cup leaks badly. I believe I have it in a good position but as my cervix is very high I can’t reach to feel if it is sitting just right. I am a very heavy bleeder. I have to empty the cup up to twice an hour on my heavy days. Because of all the in and out (it also slides out when full or if I am urinating) I have soarness and some swelling. But unfortunately I am fighting it for my worst day. I laugh when I read “you can wear it up to 12 hours”. If I could get 1 hour I would be happy. It will slide lower within minutes of my placement. I think that I am swollen and can’t get it to suction or something.
By day 3 I find that the cup has created a spot for itself that it easily slides into.
so I’m thinking that I need a softer, bell/round cup with high capacity and no to little stem (I understand I can trim). Thanks

While the Lunette is a great cup, it is on the average to the short side and with an average capacity (30ml to the rim). You’ll probably have more luck and a longer wear time if you look into a higher capacity cup with some length to it.
You might also benefit from something that’s a little softer to hopefully minimize from the soreness and swelling 🙁
Here’s are some cups that might interest you and some details about them (in no particular order):
LuvUr Body – (Large) This cup has a unique elongated shape and is one of the highest capacity cups out there. It comes in a clear silicone version and a red or green version. I feel that the silicones are different between the two and although the clear cup is softer than the colored cups, it seems to pop open a lot easier; at least in my own experience.
The medium size LuvUr Body is one of the longest cups on the market. You can look into that size too if you think the large is not long enough.
Both the medium and large LUB hold 43ml to the rim.
LaliCup – (Large) This cup is a bell-shaped cup with a regular style rim. It also has a unique design, with channels on the body that allow this cup to be folded smaller as well as helping it pop open after it’s inserted. The regular style rim will hopefully help the bell-shaped cup to not ride up as much as a flared rim might.
The medium of this cup holds 36ml to the rim, while the large holes 40ml to the rim.
Yuuki – (Large) This cup is shaped most like the Lunette in the group of cups that I’ve listed. The body of the Yuuki (not including the stem) is only about two mm more than the Lunette, as well as the diameter. However, the slight size difference may help keep the cup in place as well as being a little easier to reach with a high cervix. Reaching the base of the cup (grip rings) can make a big difference than just being able to reach the stem.
This cup comes in Rainbow (softest firmness version of the Yuuki), Soft (a medium firmness), and Classic (one of the firmest cups on the market). The “Soft” version is most like the firmness of the Lunette.
The Yuuki holds approx 37-38ml to the rim.
MeLuna or Silja – (Standard size – XLarge) The MeLuna is made with TPE and the Silja Cup is made of silicone. Both are the same design. You can get either of these cups with or without a stem, and you have stem options; stick, ball, ring.
The MeLuna comes in three different firmness version –
- Soft – The boy of this cup is very soft. The rim is a little more firm than the body, but I would still consider it on the soft side. I probably wouldn’t recommend this cup after using the Lunette. You may have some difficulties getting it to open. If I were to put a number on firmness with 5 being the firmest, Lunette would be a 5, while the MeLuna “Soft” would be a 1.
- Classic – This one would probably be the closest to the Lunette firmness, but slightly more firm.
- Sport – Another of the firmest cups on the market. If you have a sensitive bladder, I wouldn’t recommend this cup.
According to the MeLuna website, this cup holds 42ml to the rim. However, my capacity measurement came out less.
The Silja Cup only comes in one firmness. It’s most similar to the MeLuna Classic. The rim of the Silja is slightly more firm than the Lunette, but the body is a tad softer.
In my opinion, I would suggest the LaliCup Large. The rim is softer than the Lunette but still opens easily, and the unique channels might help while you’re inserting and removing the cup since they collapse and also spring open. It holds a higher capacity but isn’t too long, and has a sturdy stem that can be left or trimmed.
