About to give up
Hello,
I\’ve been using cups for about 6 months with varying success. I have a luna and an organicup. Last month I thought I finally had it worked out but this month has been the worst yet & I\’ve resorted back to a tampon.
This time it is leaking worse than ever. I have watched numerous videos and read loads of websites for advice. I have tried different folds, different heights of placement, squatting & squeezing, twisting, wiggling & pulling. Has anyone got any magic solution??
I have read about locating your cervix but I don\’t know what to do with it once I\’ve found it?!?
I\’m 38, no children, light periods, and exercise regularly. I don\’t normally give up on things but I\’m sick of leaking which I never, ever had with tampons. Help please!
Hello,
I can hear your frustration in your post ? There’s no magic solution to using a cup, but there is a learning curve and it does take the right cup, some practice, and a little finesse.
I know you said that you watched a lot of videos and read websites, but hopefully I cover something that might have been missed.
The reason for locating and measuring your cervix is to narrow down a cup that would feel comfortable and still be easy to reach. I’m not sure which Luna Cup you have but one (China) is shorter than the other (Mexico). If you have a medium to a low cervix, the Mexican Luna might feel too long. If you have a high to a very high cervix, the shorter China Luna might be hard to reach while removing it. Further, if you can locate your cervix, it’s easier to check to make sure that the cup has been placed correctly. Are you having any of these problems with either of the cups that you have? What size are you using?
For new users, I suggest squatting on the ground until you get the hang of things. This will make positioning the cup easier as the cervix is closer to the opening of the vagina and you can still bear down if you need to. Make sure to aim down and back towards your tailbone. The cervix is not “normally” positioned straight up. It’s a common mistake that tampon users make because we can place it almost anywhere (I was guilty of doing this at first, too) and it will expand and absorb.
Once you have the cup inserted, make sure you run a single finger around the rim of the cup to make sure that the cup opened completely and that your cervix can not be felt outside of it. The cup should be positioned right below or right around your cervix to collect properly.
Still squatting down, try wiping the base (grip rings) and the stem of any excess blood. A lot of time we have residual blood coating the cup that pools down and ends up on our undies. Users often think that the cup is leaking when it’s just excess blood.
How to Insert & Remove a Menstrual Cup + Tips
If you’re already doing all of this and still leaking, you might want to try a larger size or a wider cup if you’re comfortable using one. A wider cup may lessen the need for precise placement. Let me know if you’d like some help narrowing down a couple of wider cups if that’s the way you want to go. I’m happy to brainstorm some other tips that might help if you want to keep trying the Luna and/or Organi.
Until then, good luck and don’t lose hope ?
