Do These Period-Proof Panties Pass the Test?
First, let’s clear up one of the most frequently asked questions about Flux Period Proof Underwear. These aren’t disposables. Instead, they are made with four layers of technical fabric designed to provide protection all day or night. Leakproof, antimicrobial, and absorbent enough to hold at least four tampons’ worth of fluid, which is more than any other brand of period underwear currently. These panties are designed as a complete replacement for pads and tampons, and can be worn alone even on heavy days. They come in several different style and color options. The outer layers are made with regenerated nylon, sustainably sourced from recycled fishing nets. The inner layers offer an organic blend of bamboo, cotton, and modal fabrics. All components used in FLUX Undies period panties are OEKO Tex certified free from harmful chemicals, so they are safe to wear next to your most sensitive skin.
How Do They Work?
Because they are capable of holding so much fluid, FLUX Undies period proof underwear can replace disposable feminine hygiene products even on your heaviest days. Even so, they are thin and stylish.
- The inner layer wicks moisture away from your skin so you stay dry and clean.
- The anti-microbial layer prevents bacteria building up, stopping any unpleasant odors.
- The absorbent layer absorbs at least 4 tampons worth of moisture – up to 200 times its own weight.
- The outer layer is a breathable, leak-proof barrier that prevents moisture from making its way through the panties. This layer protects your clothing, sheets, and upholstery from stains.
While FLUX Undies were designed with period protection in mind, they offer coverage under a variety of circumstances. These underwear provide protection from regular discharge, occasional spotting, and postpartum bleeding, along with sweating and incontinence leaks.
These reusable period panties are safe and hygienic. Suitable for all-day wear, they contain unique antibacterial and antimicrobial fibers, but without the nano-silver coatings that can sometimes lead to irritated skin in some sensitive individuals.
It’s worth noting that these period panties are easy to care for. After wear, simply wash – either by hand, or in the machine with the rest of your laundry, but without any bleach or fabric softener. Next, line dry or air dry – but don’t tumble dry, since this will prevent the absorbent layers from working correctly.
Reusable, sustainable, comfortable, and styled to look very much like non-period-proof underwear, these panties come in several different style and color options.
Special Features:
- Hold up to 4 tampons’ worth of fluid.
- Made with sustainable, technically advanced fabrics.
- Available in a wide range of styles from classic and practical to sensual.
- They offer a Detachable style, so you can change your underwear whist keeping your clothes on.
- Breathable, moisture-wicking, leak-proof design.
- Easy to wash by hand or machine; simply air dry and reuse.
- Available in sizes XXS – 4XL.

These undies tore when they were put on for the first time, they were therefore used and no money was refunded, as we chose this for the environment, this was once but no more.
I’ve tried 3 brands of period underwear (flux, wuka & modibodi) and flux is the only one that doesn’t work for me at all. It has a lot of protection in the back, but the absorbent gusset doesn’t extend far enough towards the front to have me covered (I tend to bleed center to front when I wear a pad) so leakage is unavoidable.
Unless you bleed exclusively towards the back, I would recommend trying wuka instead for the same absorbancy (20 ml) and similar thickness but much better coverage back & front.
Wonder why flux only has 4 ratings & reviews displayed on their site? That’s because they manually remove reviews that aren’t glowing.
I love this underwear (I have the boyshort version) because when you’re on your period, you no longer have to think: do I have a tampon? is it leaking? is it time to change? is there a bathroom here? a trash can? Instead you just put on this underwear and wear it all day long, with no additional effort needed. As a scientist who sometimes goes out on fieldwork and doesn’t have access to a bathroom for ten hours a day, this is a lifesaver.
I tried cloth pads as another ecofriendly period product but on heavy days those leak through whereas these underwear last All. Day. even on the heaviest days. So, I fully endorse them.
Other details: I’m not sure if it’s wise to follow to the website’s recommendation to buy smaller if you’re between sizes; as I have wide hips the smaller thong sort of digs in unappealingly. The boyshort version creates tremendous panty lines, but honestly, they’re still visually better than the underwear I’d normally wear on my period, so whatever. Overall very soft and comfortable. I thought the washing aspect would be weird but I just wash them with my other clothes and it seems to be totally fine.
My time of the month has become so much easier to deal with. The only thing I can say about these is it just feels like you’re not even on your period. They are AMAZING. I can never ever go back.
I am one of the kickstarter backers in March 2018, and have been in touch with the company via email and twitter since October 2018 because I never ended up receiving anything.
As of March 2019, I received no refund, no product, and no meaningful reply to my emails.
A company with zero ethics and customer service.
I started using these about 4 months ago. I first wanted to use them only to sleep in but now I use them all the time because they are SO comfortable. I haven’t leaked in them yet. Longest I have worn them is probably about 10 hours. On a scale of 1-5, I am probably a 3/4 in terms of how heavy. These have literally changed my life & I really think they have somehow reduced my period pain.
Such a fantastic product. I have been wearing these for about 4 months now. They have literally changed my life. At first I only purchased them for when I go to sleep. But now I use them all the time because they are so comfortable and haven’t leaked for me at all. I don’t wear them as a back up, I just wear them on their own. I got 5 pairs. I wear the thong on the last day of my period. For some reason they also make my period pain much more bearable. Great product. Great customer service.
